Super Duty Rim Widths

I am thinking of upgrading to 285-75-16E tires. I have the stock aluminum wheel (16 x 7). The approved width on such a tire is 8 inches. Has anyone mounted these tires on stock rims? If so are there any issues with tire pressure and tread wear? Being 10 ply tires they will be around 70psi in the rear and 55psi in the fronts. This might make the tire pinch and cup outward. Causing pre-mature wear in the center of the tread. let me know if any has any thoughs about this or if people are running these tires on stock rims.

there are people all over FTE that are running the 285/75, 295/75 and even 305/70 on 16x7 stock rims. i have asked this question before and noone seems to have had problems except for some of those who experiance minor rubbing on trucks without the snow plow package and the 305/70 size. im gettin 285/75 bfg mud km's put on next week. i'll let you know how i make out. i stuck with the 285/75 b/c if the manufacturer of the tire already recomends 7.5" rim for them, i personally feel that the 305/70 which is recomended for a 8" rim is a little much for a 7" rim IMO. dont get me wrong i love the look, but i do take a good amount of trips upstate and im worried that all that driving might be too much for that wide of a tire on such a small rim. i dont think you would have many problems with it around town and light off roading. but anywho, 285/75 is a safe bet. you get the 33" without the added width of the 305/70 which can cause some extra drag on your vehical.

I'm running 295/75's with no clearance issues at all. I've had the tires since September, and put 6,000 miles on them so far. I do a LOT of highway driving and pleny of off-roading and have had no issues (other than balancing and getting out-of-round tires). I took it to Discount Tire to put the tires on a road force balancer, and they chastised over and over again for having such a wide tire on a narrow rim (followed by the sales pitch for new rims of course!)

boxcar, the 285's will work, and they look good especially if an aggresive tire. I'm not willing to put the 305's on the 16x7's, but I'm hoping they can go on 16x8's without having to lift the truck. I've got the plow package since I lived in connecticut when I bought the truck. i know someone who had problems with them rubbing, but being a florida truck, don't know that he has the plow package

295 Fenderwell Clearance

Here's a pic I took today of my 295/75 BFG's being stuffed into the wheelwell.

The truck was flexing over a ditch (see Off-Road Pics in gallery) and the wheel was turned. It came VERY close to the wheelwell liner, I had to squeeze my fingers between the two. I also noticed that when I was on level ground, and the wheel is turned in, the tire comes within about 1" of the leaf spring.

Munkey I have the same style truck and was wondering what type of leveling kit you have on it. I tried to e-mail but I'm too new of member so feel free to e-mail me from my profile. My truck is setting in Agua Dulce Tx just East of you. I also have some other questions as well but I will wait to hear from you.

I just put a set of Bridgestone Dueler AT REVO's on my truck last week. They are 285/75/16's on the stock rims. I have the plow package and they fit great in the wheel wells. The minimum recomended rim width is 7.5 in. The stock rims are only .25 per side narrower. I won't know for a while about abnormal tread wear. Enjoy the beefier look and the much better traction over the stock tires.
