I have a 2003 Expy with a recurring problem. Approx. 5 times in the 4 months I've had this vehicle, I'll get in to start it and I get absolutely nothing. The message center in my dash says "Low oil pressure". How can this be when the vehicle is not running? I also did the system check on the message board and everything says "ok" except when it gets to Low oil pressure then it beeps for a few seconds and goes to the next check. The oil level is fine and the oil pressure gauge registers normal. In the past, it would eventually turn over and start after about 15 mins but tonight it never did anything. Any ideas?
Don't worry about the low oil pressure warning. The msg center will display that if the engine is not running in any case. If the key is on, then the sensor is monitoring oil pressure. If engine is not running, then is correctly displays the warning. Once the engine fires, the warning will go away.
If you turn the key and the engine doesn't even turn over, then the problem is in the ignition system. Most likely the starter relay or an intermittent bad wiring connection on the low current side going to the relay, or ignition key, or possibly on the high side going to the battery or starter. Could also be a bad starter (electronic problem inside the starter). It's also possible that the problem is in the Powertrain Control Module, or also possibly in the PATS anti theft system.
If it's still under warranty, do the easy thing and call a nearby dealer. Call them when the problem is showing itself... hard to diagnose when the problem isn't present. If necessary, they can tow it to their dealership to do the repair.
THis is just my suggestion...... Take it to the dealer! A new Expy that is under warranty...... go straight to the dealer. If they can't fix it, go to another dealer. The reason why we buy new vehicles, for most of us is the warranty. I know if it were me I would be on the phone with Joe Blow Ford and telling them to come and get it with a ramp truck and while they were on the way make sure to bring me a comparable rental. I would then tell them to get it fixed and do not call me until it was right! If I'm gonna spend $35,000+ for a vehicle and it has a warranty I wouldn't even lift the hood if it had a problem! Let them deal with it......thats what the warranty is for! Just my .02!
I am going back to where the vehicle is to see if it starts. If it does, then I am taking it straight to the dealer. My concern is that it doesn't do it all the time and they might not be able to diagnose the problem. If it doesn't start, I'll call AAA and have it towed to the dealer. Thanks
It's probably a bad/going bad celnoid (I think that's how you spell it), if it happens once in a while and it doesn't even turn over. I had that problem with a 2000 Expy
I had the Expy towed to the dealer yesterday. They just called my voice mail and said it was ready to be picked up. They had to replace the starter. Thanks for your input!
