i have a 89 f250 4x4 the with 460.my ? is what all can eliminate off the engine as far as emissions go?i want to put a set of headers on my truck but for an 89 460,they are $469.00.the ones for an 87 460 are $199.00.what is the difference?i heard i was able to remove the egr valve and just put a gasket and plate over the hole.i want to remove the air pump and all unneccasary crap of off this engine and have it still run ok.i do not have emissions testing where i live.this truck will be mainly used off road.any help is greatly appreciated.thanks----tony----
If you can afford it, get the headers and Y-pipe. My headers required a totally different collector shape and basically had my y-pipe rebuilt. I ended up spending a ton of money getting my old Y-pipe to connect to the new headers and wish I just would have purchased an aftermarket Y-pipe that would have fit perfect. The price difference could be the coating on the headers??? I wouldn't think they are that different but maybe they are.
I would leave the emmisions stuff if it were me. Your not going to gain anything that will make you drop your jaw when you mash the gas, your gas mileage will get even worse plus it does damage the environment. The computer will be trying to adjust for the false reading also not making the engine run at its best. The crank case filter will get real oily also.
My 87 has the 351 with a four barrl. all my emmisions stuff is gone, the air pump seized up on me, the tube into the engine pipe was cut off when i bought it, and the cats are both gone, well the shell of one remains for looks but other than that, i didnt notice any diffrence with or without the stuff on there, the only reason i got rid of it is there is no emmissions testing where i live and i didnt have the money to fix the airpump and when the first cat dystroyed itself and plugged the second, i just got P.Oed and took out the cat, the only atvantage i got was, my exhaust sounds alot better
The late 80's Fords use fuel injection and the fuel air mixture/ volume is regulated by the voltage that the "smog" parts send it. Oxygen sensor in the cat is one of em.
I belive summit or jegs sells a Modual To emiinate the oxegen sensor "Problem" i personally would take care of it in that manor, it dose make the truck sound so much better.
