I was just looking at K&N's at the locak Advance Auto Parts about an hour ago - they have a wide variety of filters in stock, and could order then if not. Prices ranged from about $35 on up to over $200 for the FIPK units (replace airbox and some plumbing with open element filter).
For a factory match that will fit the current intake, most auto parts stores have them.
If looking for the full Intake Kit, Ebay is a good source as well as most of the online accessory shops.
If you want to do something for your Expy, save up a little and get yourself a new intake. K&N FIPK or Airaid are the two I would start with. There are others that are more expensive, but I won't go into that.
I don't know about how much HP you will gain but you will loose $50 from your wallet. That is how much mine cost at the local PepBoys. I run K&N's on everything I own simply because it is the last filter you will ever have to buy.
I had a K&N air filter in my 03. The mileage actually went down about 1.2 mpg over the stock paper filter. Don't ask me why. On my 02 and my 00, it helped, but on the 03, it went the other way.
actually, i stopped using k&n filters long time ago because of making the maf's dirty so i went to afe filters far better and flows and ceans better then k&n's...you can get afe's at any perfomance shops. i got mine at ford dealer
I have a FIPK set up, minus the filter and I want to connect it to the stock air box with a drop in K&N filter. does anyone know if htis will work? I have picked up a little MPG with the drop in filter alone, but recently purchased a used FIPK set up without the filter. Is it worth it, or should I just splurge and buy the correct filter for the unit? Any suggestions will be greatly accepted. all I really want to do is increase my MPG a bit with the 5.4 v8. thanks
If you still want a K&N, there is a "Dry-Charger" which is a cover that goes over the cone filter of the FIPK which is for the dustier conditions. You still won't get me to buy anything else than K&N.
I have seen that, but it does not help me at all. I need the universal filter that goes on the end of the MAF, for the FIPK system, or be able to connect the tube directly to the stock air box/MAF/Drop in K&N filter. I really just need to know if it will work. Thanks for the reply though.
It would be a lot less crowded and cluttered if you purchase the correct filter for the FIPK, but to each their own. There is a lot more air available for the FIPK without the stock air box. There are some around here that have made their own cold air boxes so more cold air is available, but I haven't been that industrious yet.
