6.0 L Engine Break-in Process?

I now have 17,500 on my 6.0 L and continue to be happy and impresed by the truck.

I had 1,200 miles on the engine before I first towed my 30' toyhauler trailer (~6,600 lbs empty) from Phoenix back to San Diego and up the big grade on I-8.

Other than trying to vary the engine speed a bit and not standing on the throttle too hard for the first 1,000 miles I didn't do any thing unusual to break it in.

I have heard that the diesel engines aren't really broken in until around 20,000 miles or so.

I'm wondering what others here have heard about that and what if anything you all did special during your break-in periods.

That is all true. It sounds like you have qualified for a #1, first class break-in. Drive it like you stole it. Show no mercy. That seems to be the way after about 1500 miles.

I waited until I had 1100 to pull my 32/triple and honestly felt better about the break in, Ford says 500 and then go. I understand the wait, now rock and roll.
