could be the starter soilenoid..........and by icm did you mean the box that sits on the driver side fender well.......if you havent replaced that, you might want to give it a shot
im getting fuel but i replaced the little gray thing on the side of the distributer and i tried putting a wire from the batt to the coil the only thing i have left to replace is the coil in the distibuter
Get a Haynes manual and a multimeter and you'll be able to troubleshoot it with no problem. I had a similar problem a few months ago, turned out to be the ignition control module.
I would say the stator inside the dist. is the next step, whenever a bad ignition module or stator is found both ign. mod. and stator should be replaced, check for power at the coil with the key in run pos. a simple test light should glow
I've found one usually makes the other go bad, hence some cars eating them
Otto:
You're talking about the slotted wheel held by 2 screws under the rotor as being the stator? I'm having the same problems as speedwheeler with my '86 300" 6. I've replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and coil and she won't start. I looked at the stator this afternoon, but I didn't give it much thought 'cuz it's just a stamped metal part that shouldn't wear. I couldn't see how such a thing could go bad. Oh well, back to the parts house.
By the way, I read on here about the testing of ignition control modules being unreliable at the parts houses. My original unit tested bad. I wound up taking back the new Borg-Warner one and having it tested and it came up bad. Another new B-W and MotorCraft also tested bad. The cheapest unit offered by O'reilly's tested OK. This stuff is very wierd!
The dealers aren't much better at ICM and computer diagnosis.
Even after using their diagnostic analyzers; it's still swap in new parts and see if its better. There is nothing absolute about these error codes, sensors, and computers. You can still be faced with
witchcraft as the only cure. Mechanics don't seem to use there senses as much any more: see, hear, smell, and touch (forget taste Yuk)
