is a dusty intake acceptable?
Havent posted in a while . quick question, I use a K&N filter with an Outerwears prefilter on my homemade open airbox. I just took the airbox apart to clean my prefilter and inspect my K&N. Everything looks fine and clean after about 10K miles of being in use. However, when i look inside the intake tube (towards the throttle body) I see dust, not huge amounts of dust, but dust none the less. Again, its not dirt....its just dust. Is this normal? Is this acceptable? Or does this indicate a leak somewhere? Thank ya!
Maybe for a K&N?? Tht seems to be the concensus.
Is this acceptable?
Absolutely not. IMO
>Or does this indicate a leak somewhere?
Let's hope it is a leak and not another reason as to why NOT to use a K&N. (Even though I use one...
)I would check to make sure everything is sealed and that the K&N is properly oiled.
Thanks for the reply, Im sure its no leak, the filter seems tight and unable to "spin" in the airbox when clamped. Also, it should be oiled properly as it is fairly new and oiled by K&N. Im still not sure i have anything to worry about, the inside of the KN filter is like brandy new, as is the inside of my prefilter. When I say "dust" i mean light light light "dust". If I run my finger on the inside of the intake tube i can just make out where my finger was....know what i mean? Dont ya think this could just be normal accumulation of dust? Surely it couldnt possibly stay void of all and every dust spec could it? should it?
If you were to inspect your intake tube would it be absolutely crystal clean?
Hmmm...lemme go check the wifes SUV with stock filter, lemme see how clean it is, then ill check my big trucks also, now im curious as heck!
Or maybe.....just maybe....I might possibly not have enough real things to worry about in life? :-X23
he promptly installed the Amsoil filter also,, Take it for what it's worth. The Amsoil brand is a Foam filter, like 1 inch thick, oil type, that fits in the stock air box, you really have to mash it into place, so I cant see how it could leak,,!
By the way my filter had almost 30,000 miles on it, since I installed it, and the filter restriction gauge, never ever showed any restriction, but with the stock filter it showed restriction after 6,000 miles or so.
Good luck,,,
