Question Throttle body spacers Do they work?

Hey everyone, I want to install a TB spacer on my 04 F250 5.4L 4x4. I was wondering if anyone has installed one of these and do they work?? I can't find one for an 04 but they list one for an 02, are the TB'S the same on these two years? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey Fitter,

I've used one on a dodge 2001 5.8 and I dident notice any difference at all. Save your money, you'll get alot more out of exhaust work, intake, electric fans or for the real bang...supercharge it!

The reason they don't work on our trucks is the reason the only time they kick in is at high RPM's like 5000-6000, much higher than we run under normal conditions, I thought about getting one for my Bronco, but read on the Bronco chapter that they only work at high RPM, and the highest I have had mine is a little under 4000, so thats $100 saved!!

Fitter,

I just put an Airraid on my 5.4 F150 FX4. I'm noticing a strange whistling sound at diff rpms. Checked all connections for a leak but found none. Salesman said it might do this because of "vortex". I don't know for sure. Seems like it might have helped @WOT.

You will get a intake suction sound (whistling) with a TBS, but I like the sound of it. I put on an Airraid intake and TBS on my F150, can't say that it gained X amound of HP, but I didn't hurt anything either.

I didn't say I didn't notice any differnce, but I just don't have any figures to back it up. I put the intake, TBS and Borla muffler on at the same time so I can't say which was better. But it was a good combination and did improve performance IMO.

Triton- I don't mind the sound that much, just a little disconcerting to hear what sounds like a dirt gathering vacuum leak.

Soemething else.......we had the first cold night since I installed the TBS and my motor woundn't fire this morning. I finally pumped the a couple of times then it started with some smoke from the tailpipe. Hope it was gas! Truck only has 4750 miles on it.

Has anybody heard of this before? I thought fuel injection should eliminate slow starts.

CONCERNED!!!!

Thanks .......

Yeah, I've heard that larger intakes and/or TBS may cause some hard starts in cold weather, but I don't have to worry about that in South Texas.

The biggest problem with any sort of "whistling" noise... that is generally assosiated with turbulance, which doesnt equate to increased HP when that turbulance is anywhere in your intake/ports of your vehicle.

BTW claynewt- fuel injection has a cold start enrichment which adds more fuel for cold starts. If you continue to have cold start probs, have it checked out. There is no acceleration pump "squirter" like on a carb, so pumping doesn't do a thing (thats why you can't "flood" it by "pumping") Just FYI

iv'e heard that although the power commes at higher rpm it is something that creates a bigger gap(1")or (2") improving gas milage and cooling the air and mostly it's something that would benefit a towing truck for torque more than hp.
did you guys notice better throtle response? thats one of the other things it deffinately helps,

I was disappointed with the so called power advantages of the spacer until I started pulling my trailer. There was a noticablable increase in performance on hills when I had to kick down to climb. And I think it is one of the bigger contributors to my none pulling fuel ecomomy. It is usually the combination of alot of little improvements that make the big noticeable difference in power.

Muskedon I too did the throttle body spacer. I think I noticed a difference. The I went for the whole enchilada and did most all of the bolt ons.

Last October I drove to Las Vegas, 75 mph cruise control, and averaged 18.6 mpg. When I bumped it up to 80 in the hilly parts of the trip my mileage went down to 16 something.

I think the throttle body spacer is just one piece of the puzzle. I agree with you that the combination of bolt ons gets you the noticable difference.
