Timing/Gas mileage

My timing on my EFI 351w is at 13 degrees right now. Would bumping it up to 10 help gas milage, and isn't it true that anything lower than ten would require a higher octane because you are reducing the amount of time the fuel has to ignite?

you're going the wrong way try increasing it to 14-15 which seems high for a gas engine. If it is hard for the starter to turn over or you get preignition back it off until it runs smooth.

yeah man you got it all backwards. 10 is like factory and 13 is advanced timing and yes more advance causes ping and might require more octance. put it at 10 btdc and you will be good. More advace increases power, and gas mileage but you don't want pinging.

i forgot to mention but if you go to time you engine. Disconnect the spout conector first. Its like a computer chip and is located near the distributor it just unplugs and be careful not to lose it cause its small and black.
