4x4 problems

Hello, I'm having problems with my four wheel drive. It works if you get out and manually lock in the hubs, but you can not turn it on by turning the switch on the dash alone. Vaccum tubes seem to be ok. Any help would be appreciated.

If you've got manual hubs, I would expect that you'd have to lock them in from outside before the system would work. Unless you've got a different kind of manual hubs than I've ever had.

On my '99 F250 super duty the hubs can be set to Auto or Manual Lock. When the hubs are on Auto you are supposed to be able to fully engage them from inside the vehicle, which is what i'm having a problem with

Had the same problem on my 01 f 250. I just locked the hubs in manually when I needed 4x4. Eventually, I could no longer turn the hubs, one side wouldn't unlock. I took the hubs off and found some crud on the inside. By this time my auto/manual hubs were trashed and I replaced them with Warn manual hubs.

Have you taken out the hubs yet for a look see? They come out easy. Remove locking ring and they should pull out. You may have to persuade it with a dead blow hammer or something. Clean it out if necessary. Hopefully thats it.
