Hi, I have an 86 F250 diesel (I hope this is the right place to be posting this question) Anyhow, I was recently talking to my neighbour about headers for trucks. He has a 2000 powerstroke and a 2003 V10. He said that there are headers available for his trucks, but that there are none available for mine. I was wondering if anyone on here has any information about headers for my truck, or if it is even possible to have them (keep in mind it is not a turbo).any input is appreciated, thanks
there are Headers available for your (and my) truck. Ihave seen them and if I'm right they will cost appoxmately 500 Bucks. I found them on a website which I got from someone on this FTE site. Unfortuntely I don't have that site anymore, I also watch out for a dealer who has the Headers and who sent the Headers internationally.
It was not Hooker or Hedman
I also be very intested in that stuff so If someone here has the webadress.....thank you very much.
There are a couple of places that sell headers for the 6.9 and 7.3 IDI engines. They are Stan's Headers and Mid-Kansas Diesel. Here's an old series on the subject:
I ended up getting the Stan's headers and plan to build my own exhaust system using 2.5" pipe, balancer tube and 30" glasspacks. Give Stan's a call and ask to talk to Phil (Stan's brother). He had a lot of good info.

I finally got back home and put the Stan's Headers on this weekend. Also did my own exhaust. Took me about 8 hours to do the whole thing.
About 4 hours to get the truck in the air and get the old exhaust and manifolds off. The rearmost bolt on the drivers side took over an hour of trying to find the right combination of tool and body position to remove, major PIA. Took off starter and had to replace the block heater while I was there (been bad for a while).
After that it took about 2 hours to get the new headers on. Some of the bolt holes were chewed up (in the block). I strongly recommend chasing all the holes with a tap before installing the headers. That would have saved me some time.
Then a couple hours getting all the parts back on and the exhaust run. Sounds pretty good.
Test drive feels much stronger than it did, almost gas engine acceleration. I hope to get it to the testing station and see if they'll run it on the dyno. Then I can compare how it did a month ago on the initial. I'll also keep track of the mileage and see what improvement there was there.

The headers were $415 plus $25 shipping. I looked around and they were the only place that actually made them. The Mid Kansas Diesel did stock them as well, but they were made by Stan's and more expensive.
Clearance around the starter is good, about the same as before. The hard bolt is still the top one.
The fit and finish are excellent, nicest set of headers I've actually had in my hands and the only set I didn't feel like I needed to enlarge some of the flange holes prior to installation.

I ran dual 2.5" exhaust from behind the collectors. I talked with Stans brother when I called. He recommended the 2.5" duals, with a crossover tube and 30" glasspacks. That's pretty much what I did, but I have yet to cut the holes and weld in the crossover. The exhaust supplies ran another $100, I got them locally.
I have no idea what the Banks kit looks like, so I don't know if it'll fit. The reducers, new bolts and the gaskets were also included from Stan's.

hey rjlougee,
I was actually looking to re do my exhaust on my 91 7.3L. I am weighing the pros and cons of headers. The only con to headers on my truck is that it kinda kills the future for a turbo ( not unless someone has heard otherwise). I know that cost is more effective, did you notice significant gains in power? Hey let us know how the dyno turns out as well.... Thanks
i called stans headers the other day and on of the mechanics there said that he could make my 7.3 with a set of headers run right along side of a stock power stroke, with no turbo!i guess it would be possible, but i would have to see it for myself.
