99' F250 Powerstroke Automatic Trans.

We just bought a 99' F250 Power Stroke Diesel with an automatic transmission. We know the 6 speed is probably better for pulling, but my husband has leg problems and drives long distances, pulling good size loads. Does anyone have any tips on how to get the best utilization and longest life using the automatic transmission?

You should probably install a tranny temp guage so you can make sure you dont burn the fluid. Don't ever let it get over about 210 and you wont have any fluid problems. If you dont know when the last time it was done then have the transmission flushed somewhere at a dealer or other lube place. Have them drop the pan and change the filter too. I bought my 99 with 104000 miles and it started to shift funny after i got it. I had the filter changed and the tranny flushed and it shifts like it should now and dosent slip in between gears.
