My brother has a 500 gal. tank at his shop for burnt oil. Some oil recyclers come around every other month to pick it up free of charge.I hope you guys dumping that stuff on the ground don't get it in your ground water.I seen that happen.you cant imagine the cost to clean that up.good luck

Old oil drained into collection pan.
Once new oil is in crankcase, the old oil gets put in the oil jug I just emptied then ......it's off to :

Canadian Tire...there's more to Canadian Tire....than Tires !

Old coolant> I take to the du,mp where they have re-cycling station, Same place I take old paint.

The garbage man takes mine. I am always sure that no oil gets on the ground, I live in a very fragile ecosystem near the Yellowstone river, and since I enjoy the trout fishing, I am doing my part to make sure that the water stays clean.

As far as coolant goes, the substances in coolant breakdown in sunlight, so you guys can leave it in a 5 gallon bucket with a screen over the top and it will be safe in a few weeks. If you leave the screen off, it becomes the most effective mousetrap you will ever see.

Good god people, come on! I'm no eco-terrorist, but jeez dumping oil and anti-freeze on the ground is just plain wrong! As said before, take it to AutoZone, they've taken up to 30 quarts of used oil(s) from me at one time!

About 5 minutes away from my house is a recycling center. They have recycling bins, and garbage dumpsters for you to use also. Open to the public. It is just a little corner outside near a public works garage. They have an anti-freeze dump area, and an oil dump canister. It takes 20 minutes from when I drag out my 5 gallon container to when I put my shoes away when I am done. And the best part is that its free.

The local waste water district runs a recycle center about 15 minutes away. Of course 5 of those minutes is spent on the winding roads inside the plant trying to find the center. I use old cat litter jugs that have 3" screw on lids for most of my fluids. They will take my oil, paint, insecticides, and even some 50/50 gas/water mix I drained out of a fuel tank once. They dump the radiator fluid right into the sewer plant because it makes the microbes eating the sludge happy. They told me just to dump it down the stool at home and then flush. Most of my oil goes to the local store that sells it to me since by the law here they have to take it. The recycle center mixes old paints to use for painting equipment or buildings. It seems to mix to a gray color.

There isnt any recycling center near me. And every time i tried to take my old oil to the parts store the guy wouldnt take it, saying it was contaiminated or something. So whatever, i'm not going to waste this much thought and energy on some oil, i just dump it on a briar patch.

I'm not a tree-hugger obviously, if the world were to suddenly die and all of humanity would cease, it wouldnt bother me all that much.

RJR,

The place you buy it will most likely take your used oil. The Zone, Advance, Kragen, O'Riley's, Wally World, K-Fart etc.

Its stuff like this that gives people ammunition to "Outlaw" us from doing our on maintenance. It hasn't been but about 5 years that I helped battle a self repair ban.

thats what i'm saying though, anytime i take it to a parts store they always give me some problems. Like they dont like to take it on that day, or there's something wrong with the oil. whatever, i got real things to take care of.
