Had New long block installed on my 89 and someone told me that it look like all they did was rebuild my original motor. What a rip-off. So the question is, How can i tell if the block in my truck is the original one from the factory or a is a new long block?

check the casting numbers on every part available is see if they match. Other than that i can't think of much. I suppose the motor is all clean. I suppose the motor is all clean but the could have washed the old one. I bet if it was done by any reputable shop it will be a new long block.

I wouldn't worry about it, unless you paid for a brand new standard bore long block. Otherwise you would be getting someone elses used block that was rebuilt or remaned, anyway. later
