I'm seeking advice on good tires for my F150 '02 supercrew. Factory tires were General Grabber AW . . . very disappointing. Looking for smooth highway ride.
Do you have a 4x4 or 2wd? I wouldn't recommend an off-road tire if you have a 2 wheel drive. My 4x4 came with GoodYear Wrangler LT/S tires. They have 34,000 miles on them now. They ride ok and aren't very loud.
If you have a 2wd, I would recommend the Long Trail T/A's.
I am considering either the BFG All-Terrains or Goodyear AT/S for my next set.
I have always had good luck with BFG's on my Mustang.

FYI,
The Bfg's in a 17'' may be a bit pricey.
When I bought my Lt265/70R17's I paid ~160 per tire at Sam's club (I had to special order them), and another 9 bucks for the warranties and stuff.
Most other tire shops wanted ~190+ for just the tire.
I had some GY AT/s's on my Ranger via the Firestone recall....I barely got 30K out of them...IMO they were a real disapointment.
If you have 4x4 go with the BFG AT/ko. They look awsome and aren't to noisy. What size rim? I work/know alot of people that have 97-02 F-150's. Looked at their tires before and rode with them before I ordered mine. 265's fit perfect and you can still haul comfortly. 285's seem to me to be packed up in there. Just my opinion. If your going to be mostly on highway and aren't looks may want to look at the Goodyear Wanglers. The price was about the same were I from. Good luck!
I agree - those stock General's were crummy. Wouldn't even call them tires, just rim protectors.
I went with Yokohama Geolandar AT+II , 265/75R16. Fills the wheel well nicely, and good aggressive tread without too much road noise. Got them from Summit Racing, had Walmart mount them on the stock rims. Huge improvement over the Generals.
Hey Pro3qtr,
You talking about the GoodYear Wrangler AT/S tires?
I am considering them as a replacement because even though I like BFG's, they are a bit pricey.
I have 265/72r17's on mine. What is the treadwear rating on the AT/S's? My RT/S's only have a 320 treadwear rating. They are now close to being legally bald (almost to the tread depth 3/32 bars in the tread).
I am hoping that the AT/S's will last longer that 35,000 miles.

they run me about 105 a tire installed. i have about 12000 miles on them and they look like new. also i couldn't get over the traction on wet pavement.
