I was just wiping off a scuff when I got out of my truck at work yesterday. Seems that would be a better spot for some mid range speakers... protected by very durable grilles of course 
I plan to mount my remote amp controller in the cupholder area in the center arm rest. The door panels will be glassed and filled with speakers. That'll just leave the two in the dash which is more than enough for me.
