23000 miles on my Ford 250 Super Duty. Uses about a quart of oil in 2000 miles. I am told this is OK, having trouble believing this. Any advice?
What is the problem with the milling of the right side head on some engines?
Thanks for the info

IN my book NO this is not OK,but then again I am not paying the warranty claims. There are issues with the 4.6/5.4 modular engines using oil. Ford wont do anything unless you use more than a quart of oil in 500 miles or less.(which is really crap) 2 guys at work have 5.4 engs. and both said they are using about the same amount as you.Does your engine have any knocking noise when started after sitting for a 2 hours. Because they were changing some engines under warranty for a piston slap noise. I think it was on 2000 and some 01 models. I had a Crown Victoria with a 4.6 in it and it used a quart of oil every 2nd tank of gas, sure did run good though. If it doesnt start using any more it should be OK. 2000 4x2 Crew Cab 7.3 Power Stroke 3.73
I am just coming up on 70k on my buggy and it has dropped about a quart every 2-3k since Jesus was knee high to a grasshopper. I never took it to my local dealer because they don't do warranty work on trucks they didn't sell and it wasn't worth the trip to a place that does. Oil was cheaper than my time and the expected hassle from Ford or Ford Dealer. I had read about too many people trying to fight that battle and loosing.
I have a Diablo chip in mine and have had it for about 15k (I think) and my consumption has not gone up (nor down!) I don't drive really hard, but that chip really helps when passing on a two lane when you misjudge how close that oncoming Peterbuilt is.

Wow! Thats not good, I've got over 80k on my 5.4 and it doesn't burn a drop. Make sure you get that complaint registered with Ford. Cuz if ya have my luck it will all let loose 1000 miles out of warranty.
I agree, at least take it to Ford and register the complaint for the future. However, my '97 F-150 5.4 now has around 130,000 miles and it seems to me that I lost a quart between every oil change (3500-4000 mi). It never really bothered me and I have not had a bit of trouble with the engine, or anything else except an alternator. Cross my fingers I guess. However, IMO, I would not really worry too much about 1 quart between changes. It seems that every truck I have owned.....and they have all been Fords, burns a little oil between changes. That's just my $.02.
