Used to have a extended cab before we bought the 96'. You can't beat the extra room with the four-door. Only problem is when I take it to the city. Turning and Parking are terrible due being a dually longbox. If you dont absoluty need a longbox dont get it.

The short bed crews don't turn any shorter than our long beds. It takes a lot of room to turn around a battleship. Just get used to parking way out in the boonies, or do like I do and pull in across two (or three) spaces.

Yeah...Thats what I learned the hard way. I dont get to the city very often, but its always a trip when we take the truck. I thought it was illegal to take up two spaces? Man, do I love to look across those city parking lots and see a big ole Diesel purring. Right now I'm trying to talk my old man in putting some exhaust on our 96'. Wish me good luck.

Don't know, don't care. I'll take a $20 parking ticket over a door ding any day.

I gotta say again ... what a great site and a great bunch of people. I got a lot of good advice, and last week I found my truck! A '96 xtra cab long bed (I've been told that the short bed/diesel didn't exist until '99 -- anybody know if that's true?) with only 140k on it at a pretty nice price.

The lot selling it needed to fix a few things on it (nothing major -- at least from what I could tell) so I decided to come back in a couple of days when he got it done and make the purchase.

So the kicker ... don't want to make this a soap opera, but a few things happened (nothing too major -- or even bad!) and suddenly I'm out of the truck market for another year. So I had to let it slip through my fingers.

The only bright side is ... by the time I'm ready to buy, maybe I'll be in a position to buy something newer!

But as Arnold would say ... I'll be back. I NEED that truck, dangit!!

I have a 95 Ext cab bench seat in back long bed. It is fine for me and the kids, 2 of them are still in car seats. It is a pain to seat belt them in but that's all. I don't know if I am a good rep on the ext cab because I am over 6 feet tall with ape arms! Comes in handy sometimes. It only holds 5 people (safely), that is a down side for me, but oh well, it's OK for now. I wonder if they make a 6 person one, 2 bench seats maybe? Still not big enough though. Wish a good size family could fit in a PU better.

If you get a PSD and have small kids or wife, invest in some steps and hand bars! I don't have right now. I have to lift 2 kids up, and help wife in! I just throw a step stool in the back for now.

As fay as price goes, I bought several thousand dollars cheaper than book ($8,900) and could have gotten cheaper I think. That way I have the few thousand dallars to invest in PU, if it forces me to. Also the 8,900 is A LOT cheaper than a newer one. I'll graduate up to 4 doors later if the cattle market stays up a few more years. My oldest daughter wants this PU when she is old enough to drive anyway! Good time to change out.

Yeah the used to make a bench in front and back anyway. Had an old 85 i think that had em. You could fit 6 people easy with it. Not sure if they make em now. I've always seen the captain chairs or the fold down console.
