Difficulty removing/turning distributor
I am working on a 1972 Ford F-350 w/360 engine which is in desperate need of having the timing adjusted. I cannot get the distributor to turn! I have applied WD-40, etc. ; have tried it with the engine cold, the engine hot, the engine warm; have tried getting the engine hot and then pouring cold water on the distributor housing; have tapped on the distributor, etc., etc., etc.!!! I am about to spend several hours fabricating some sort of wrench/breaker-bar that will fit onto the distibutor and hopefully turn it without breaking it. I have experienced hard to get out Ford distributors before, but this is ridiculous!!! Before I break the distributor in half trying to get it to turn, does anyone out there have any suggestions that could help???!!!???

You're doing all the right things, you might want to try PB blaster instead of WD. I've been your position a few times, only broke one, patience and tapping in one direction and then the other even if it does not move, it tends to free it up. Keep away from the urge to whale on it, it will break!!!

I fought mine for three days doing what you are doing and finally lost my patience with it. Broke the crap out of it just because I wanted to at that point. I think it was only about $36 at O'Reilly's.

See if you have enough room to put a small size (import) oil filter wrench on it. Then wiggle it, don't crank on it. I have an adjustable one that fits. Sometimes there's even enough room!
