ok im just wondering if these foods are on the low-carb list-
apples/oranges/bananas
Ham
salads ( i pretty much just eat lettuce with light dressing )
i decided to get a bit serious about how i eat, i quit drinking pop, switched to light beer ( which is only on weekends ) and im trying to have at least one low-carb meal per day which is usually made of these- scrambled eggs, steak or chicked fryed in a pan without oil or grease, ham, string cheese, beef jerky. also i eat apples and salads once in a while.
its almost impossible for me to cut out carbs completley but if i want to get my abs "6 pack" looking good its definantly something i have to consider. so if i cut out 1/3 of my carbs, do extra excersizes for weight lifting ( upper body ) boost my jogging/running and situps/crunches i think i should have the desired effect by spring or summer.
so to make a long story short, are those few foods i listed above low carb foods?

No. All 3 of these are very high in sugar, but the apple does have a lot of fiber, which is good. If you have to eat fruit, dark berries are your best bet.
Ham
Yup- any meat is very low in carbs.
salads

Be careful here- low-fat, "lite" dressings are high in carbs. Ranch and creamy bleu cheese are the lowest-carb dressings. For greens, use spinach or romaine- iceberg is nothing but water and has nowhere near the nutrients of the dark-green lettuces i just mentioned. NO croutons- use cashews.

I do what I call a "modified atkins". I watch carbs during breakfast and lunch but I'm not extremely strict. At night is when I try to eat very little carbs. From my experience if your going to cheat do it at breakfast.
Cut out the fried chicken as well, the batter (breading) isnt low carbs cause it has flour in it. If u want chicken, bake it or boil it. But since you arent wanting to lose alot of weight, then frying would be ok every now and then. All fruit is high carb, except for berries (strawberries, blueberries, etc.) But again, if u arent wanting to lose alot of weight, then a fruit every other day would be ok. No white bread, eat only wheat, and if u can eat sugar free wheat. Home pride sugar free is the best bread ive ever had.
BigExpy has got it right. Eat your carbs early in the day, cut them out in the evening, around 6 or so. Carbs are not the devil no matter what Atkins says, it's just the amount we eat and when we consume them.
I recommend you steer clear of Atkins or Protein Power unless you are diabetic. Those programs backfire big time if you ever eat real food again. They're not "diets", they're lifestyles. For them to be successful you need to stick to them for life.
If you want a good 'modified' carb program get Body for Life by Bill Philips. He's a dork but the program works excellent.
