Arrow Engine Troubles

Hi. Well, I've got a problem. My 1979 F-150 with a 302 V8 has suddenly started acting up. Actually, there has been a slight 'knocking' sound for a while, which I assumed was a lifter, but a seemingly more major problem just happened the other day. The engine started running very erratically, especially when in 'Drive'. I'm not very mechanically inclined, but I decided the first thing I could do was see if all the cylinders were firing. I pulled all the sparkplugs and the back left (standing in front of the vehicle) plug was covered in an oily (possibly gas?) residue, clearly indicating that that cylinder is either not firing (which, to me, doesn't make sense...all the other cylinders are firing, and the cap, rotor, wires, and plugs seem fine), or there is a more serious problem. I don't know if there is a valve problem, timing, or something else. I did have a burnt valve about 30,000+ miles ago, and the heads were completely reworked at that time. Also, the 'knocking' that I mentioned appears to be coming from the right side (once again, facing the vehicle from the front), whereas the 'unfiring' cylinder is on the left.?.?

Help??? Thanks!
