5L to Inline 6 help

I have a '91 5L which has melted #2 and #8 pistons. How can this happen, and how can I prevent it from happening again when I get another engine from the wreckers?
Can I swap this motor with an inline 6? What kind of problems can I expect if I do? (same electronics?)

thanks
Ed

The #8 is known for failure due to the PCV valve hook up which is hooked to the vacuum port to the #8 cylinder and this causes a lean condition in the #8 cylinder which leads to piston or ring failure. Not sure why #2 failed.

Its best to relocate the PCV hook up to the top of the intake so it is shared by all of the cylinders not just one. Ford changed this on I think the 95 and up trucks.

Even swapping to a 315W may have some computer problems but I do not know for sure. I think it wil run but throw some codes. For a 300 6cyl. I would say a computer would be needed for sure. Even if you have a 351W there are over 10 different computers to choose from. Atleast on my 89 there is.
