I've thought of it, but the shear torque of that motor scares me because it might twist the frame. I remeber the '96 model deisels having some problems with the motor compartment frame craking

I own an89 Bronco and drive a 2000 F250 powerstroke 6 spd for work I would love to do this conversion but dont think the Bronc could handle it .not srong enough AND THEY TWIST now,all that torque?NO WAY DUDE
Originally posted by snackboy Why can't you just find a f-350 powerstroke and remove the body, then modify the frame to fit the bronco body on it. It seems like it would be easier to adapt the bonco body to the chassis than add everything to your existing frame. I have thought about this conversion as well. It sure would turn some heads to hear a diesel under that bronco hood.
Thats exactly what I was just gunna mention
Just find a good F-250/F-350, shorten the frame and make new body mounts to match your Bronco. Much easier....then all you need to do is find a good body for your Bronco chassis and you will have a bronco again
Seems that we have all come to the same conclusion...this is gonna be an expensive undertaking, that probably won't turn out too well. I have been talking to a bunch of people myself. I've had the same suggestions as far as just going with the body/frame off configuration. It seems to be the "best" over all solution to handle all that torque BUT it's not what I want to do. The only other way is to try to stiffen up the frame and we didn't get into the weight thing as much as you guys did because I know I could by after market springs to handle that. The biggest problem is my pocket book. I have "diesel tastes" on a Briggs and Stratton budget. Well it may not be that bad but you get my drift. I'll probaby go with the 460 swap and dream of the Power Stroke...BUT if I do figure out a way to swing this I will let you guys know. Until then the ole girl is parked with a dead engine. She's looking pretty forlorn sitting out there in the snow. Alas and Alack...(tragic sigh) ;-)
