I did'nt know Dick Cepek made a lift kit for a S/D! But if so, I dont know why it would'nt work on a EX. I would probaly email the manufacture to be sure though!
I would think the leaf springs would bolt right in. However whenever you're lifting(suspension) an Excursion 4" or more, there's more to it than just replacing the springs. I also wanted to do an 8" lift on my X but I would have to lenghten the driveshaft, replace brake lines as well so I opted for the 6" SkyJacker's System not the kit. Having to replace/modify parts, the cost for 8" lift would be more costly. However, on the V10 you can do 6" suspension lift and say how about 2" body lift or maybe even 4" sus and 4" body lift. Someone could chime in on that combinition if possible. I would not do it personally.
If you want some pretty good info e-mail dcspecial or abendix, they know alot about lifts. I would try to stay away from body lifts if I could, there are several things you will need to take into consideration like fuel lines, wiring, shift linkage. Just some things to think about.
if you want to see what a body lift looks like on a superduty... look at my pics. i run 8" of suspension and 3" of body lift. when i did my body lift, there was not an option for a two or a four inch.. only three.....
yeti also runs a 3" body lift on his rig.
the body lift kit should come with everything you'll need, except gap guards.
i am no expert on excursions.... but would think the parts would be interchangeable..... the diff you owuld run into between six and eight inches is a lengthened front drive shaft.... should run you 100-150 to have the shaft lengthened (including all labor).
body lift and diesel..... you will incure some extra cost to have the intercooler relocated.... and unfortunatly it is custom fab.... most places seem to be comfortable doing this and i have a friend that has done this with no negitive effects.
abendx,
I'm glad to hear that is has been done on diesel SD's. I know 4X4 down southern Cali are more extreme than here in Sacto. I know on my previous I said "I personally would not do 4" body lift". Actually my previous plan was to do 6" suspension lift and 2" body lift but found out after it has been lifted that they would not recommend body lift and they would not even install it. The option I was looking at also is do the hanger lift but then I would have to do some mods again. So, who does body lifts down south. I am planning to bring the family to disneyland then while down there, I'll go check out the shop that does such work. Thanks,
i am sure there are more shops then you can stake a stick at..... mine was done, then redone as there were problems with the first shop and their incopetence... but that is another story all together.
the second shop who did GREAT work was Canjo Off Road in Thousand Oaks... i'd recomend them.
they were refered to me by performance accessories, the maker of the body lift kit..... i'd call them and ask whom they recommend where you live and see what they will do for you... or ask them who else closer to disenyland as Thousand Oaks is not close and the body lift will take the greater part of a day to a day and a half.
I am also in Sac. and I have a guy named Shawn in Redondo Beach do mine. The name of his shop is "Street Shock"
Very honest and does outstanding work. I can give his number if you want.
fitter... it's ok. as long as a bunch of pushy a-holes don't run up and say, 'buy the cool guy' for no reason other than they heard it was the cool thing to do.... i have now ridden in one and can honestly say, you'll be wasting your money when it could have been better spent on necessities such as gears, beers, and rears
also fitter.... no one ever drugged me.... i did it to myself
wow... you guys have no shops up in norcal to do lift work?!?!?!
i took a quick look at the pa website and they still only make a 3" kit for superduties (i don't know that anyone else makes a body lift for a superduty?), but i can't find an approved dealer/installer list.... give them a call or e-mail and i am sure they will help you find someone close that they recommend. one positive thing i noticed on their site is that the recently produced a body lift kit for the dodge diesel.... so maybe a complete kit for the superduty with the psd is not far behind???
