Electrical problem

2002 f250 Lariat 4 door.diesel.

Drivin down the road a buzzing start under the dash & the headlights go off.Dash lights too.Turns out locks as well.

Had my fog lamps on so I didn't crash.turned the dial to manual headlamps & they worked.

Checked all the fuses & nothing is blown but it resets it some how & worked again for a couple of days.More buzzing & they go out again.

I found the fuse that resets what ever is goin on & do it again but this time it last a few minutes.I'm guessin some kind of auto sensor relay.

Can I fix this myself or do I have to make a appointment with a dealer & give up my truck for a month ???

There are some guys in here who know the newer vehicles. It makes sense though, if you have some sort of automatic headlamp system, and they only work in manual, then it's going to be some mysterious black box under the dash that's bad. As you can tell, I don't know much about all this modern gee-wiz-bang stuff on the new trucks.

I thought I would add a little something I read in a co-workers auto magazine the other day.

The article started talking about some legislation that might be started in congress about the repair industry and the situation with newer autos.

It seems the automakers are making the cars more and more complicated, requiring more and more specialized training and equipment, and the independent repair shops are being left in the dust. The aftermarket repair parts makers are also being left out. Seems they accuse the automakers of withholding documentation and repair info for the newer cars, leaving the only option for new car owners to take their cars to the dealers to be worked on.

Of course they have some sort of committee in congress that is "looking at the problem", but I thought it was kind of interesting. I knew trying to work on new vehicles was starting to get bad, but I didn't know it was getting that bad.
