Rear Main Seal

I'm back again. My 3.8 V6 has a bad rear main seal leak and I was wondering how hard it would be to change it. question: do I have to pull the engine or just slide the tranny back outta the way? thank you

I think your engine may have the split seal in it. Look it up on www.partsamerica.com and see if they have a picture. If it's split, you will not need to separate the engine and tranny. You will have to pull the oil pan, then take the rear main loose, and then work it out of there.

franklin thanks for your reply. I checked parts america and found out it is a 1 pc. seal. with no picture. what to do now????

if it's a 1 piece, you'll need to pull the tranny to get it out and put the new one in. depends how bad the leak is if it's actually worth it.

Instead of going through all that, it might be time to put in the 300 I6 you have sitting there instead.

Well, looks like it's going to be a job. I personally am set-up to pull the engine easier than the tranny, but either way will work. Y

It's a pain in the butt, and I think I'm gonna swap it before I'll seal it. so I'll just keep puttin oil in it. thank you for the replies-I really appreciate it.
