i have an 86 F250 and my body mounts are pretty shot. i'm going to be replacing them, but i have been thinking about doing a body lift. if i do it i'm mosy likely going to get a 3" lift. other then raising the bumpers what will i have to modify.
if you plan to install a bodylift you should also plan to replace the original bodymounts. If you plan to install only the bodylift it could be very hard and uncomfortable in you truck.
I personally have installed a 2" Bodylift without any trouble, but I was told that there are some mods (relocation parts) neccesary if you install a 3" and up.
The only hard think is to relocate the front bumper. I still havn't found a good solution. Look a my galerie, you'll see that the front bumper is not placed very good.
For ther rear bumper....there are only a few new holes neccesary to relocate the bumper......
...and...have a look to the brackets which are holding your radiator support. They maybe rusted away, maybe you have to change these brackets - just drill out the rivets and srew new/used ones onto the frame.
Like jens said you will need to do some modifying to your radiator support, and maybe install longer hoses to reach. I think you would need to modify the steering shaft so you don't have any binding in the steering. If you have an automatic you would need to modify your shift linkage so your shifter will still work properly. If you have a manual transmission you might have to modify the clutch linkage if you have the older style mechanical linkage for your clutch, if you have a hydraulic clutch you shouldn't have to worry about it. As for raising the bumpers, I have thought about cutting the front frame horns off and rewelding them to the frame 3 inches higher (for a 3 inch body lift) to raise the front bumper to the needed height. Once the frame horns have been relocated, I would weld some extra gussets in to fill any gaps and restore the strength of the frame horns. As for the rear I have seen a lot of guys install a filler panel to cover the gap between the bottom of the bed and the top of the rear bumper.
