fuel pump replacement
fuel pump replacement
I need to replace the fuel pump in my rear tank (86 longbed 4x2). I pulled the tank a while back, and was wondering if this job is easier done by removing the bed and working on the tank from above? If so, what all is involved in removing the bed?

If you have several buddys that are willing to help you then yes it would be easier... there are 6 bolts holding the bed down (these are the boltheads that you can see in the bed of the pickup..
you will need to remove these, unhook the fuel filler neck (unhook the hoseclamp that connects the steel neck to the flex hose) and unplug the tail-light harness.
if you are unable to save the bedbolts just reinstall with carrige bolts..

if you have pulled the tank b4, I'd do it again that way. because if you've never touched the bolts on the bed, your probably going to have to cut them off. You need 4 people to remove the bed without damaging it, 1.5 people to take it off if you don't care about destroying it. (I've done it boths ways.)
yea io am doing it right now but i am restoiring the truck and i took the bed off anyway to paint it. As far as needing 4 folks to remove the bed that is not true me and my 57 year old dad did it with out much problem and we carried the bed about 30 feet to the place where i am gona paint it. My problem is that i change the fuel filter both pumps and my only problem is i am still not getting the fuel to the fuel injection system so i unplugs the fuel line from the front pump and i was not getting gas but i can here the fuel pump in the front click when i turn it over so i took the fuel line off the spout at the tank tried to turn over anf no gas came out so i took a voltage metter to the electronic plug and found it to have about 4-5 volts when i turn it over i was not worried but my friend thinks it should be getting more power to the tank pump anyone got any ideas what could be wrong
