I was just wondering how often the AC compressor should kick on and off in roughly 70 degree weather? I took my 97 F-150 to a AC shop where some buddies of mine work. They put a little freon in and told me that over about 7 years it wasn't that much that leaked out. I haven't had too many days to check it out with the cooler weather but today I checked it and the compressor cycles. It does put out cold air but it still seems to take a bit of time to cool off the truck. When it gets to summer time I know this will be a probelm.
I wouldn't worry about it yet. It it was properly charged I would let it run. Since it cycles, that tells me that things are working as they should. If it cycles on/off on/off every few seconds then I would say it's low on freon.
It does cycle. It runs about 7 seconds and the shuts back off.
It did have a little oil on one of the hoses that connect to the can( don't know the name) next to the firewall. I was able to tighten up the fitting a little.
you have a major leak if you're leaking from a refrigerant line. its called a receiver or accumulator. i'm not sure if there is a common term for the automotive world.
you need to fix the leak and then charge it, or else you're going to pay more money in the long run. the a/c should never leak, except for an insignifant amount from the compressor seal which wouldn't affect the car/truck in at least once a decade.
