I know the procedure for removing the door trim pannel and installing new speakers. What I don't know is how difficult it is. I've followed the instructions in the manual before and it seemed easy, and it ended up taking me a few days to finish due to little things the book neglects to tell. I'm just curious if anyone else has done it before and if they think it is worth saving the $30 labor to have a shop install new speakers.
1)Getting everything apart - Easy
2)Installing wiring speakers--Easy
3)Getting the panel back on--Easy
Assembling it so it doesnt rattle like a **** later.. --ARG!!! Near
I'm not trying to advertise for Crutchfield here...but I ordered my speakers from them and they shipped everything needed for the job (except a screwdriver). I replaced both front speakers in less than 45 minutes. I could do both of them in less than 30 minutes if I had to now. The job is a piece of cake.
Now, the rear doors....that is a different story.
The only thing you have to watch out for, is you have to be careful not to break the switches for the power windows, etc. when you remove the harness from them. Like everything else, they are plastic. But yeah, you can do it and save lots of money. Just don't get into a hurry.
WHATS SO BAD ABOUT THE BAD DOORS IN PATICULAR?? I WAS GOING TO PUT A BOX IN THE BACK, AND WAS WAS JUST GOING TO BYPASS THE REAR SPEAKING AND USE THOSE FOR INOUTS INTO THE AMP.
The rear doors are a pain in the ***. There are a dozen plastic clips that hold the panel on, and they are VERY difficult to break free without snapping them. I broke a clip on one side and broke the actual plastic mounting hole on the panel itself on the other side just trying to get the panels off. I really wish Ford designed the rear speakers like the ones on the 2-door Supercabs. On those, there are four screws to remove and then the speaker comes right out. It sure would have been nice if the 4-door Supercabs were designed the same way.
