I created a N.A.F.T.A. thread way back when and there wasn't much interest here.

I really found that hard to believe.
Below is the only thread that touched on this.

We call it North Amierican F-the-farmer trade agreement.
I see farmers getting clobbered every year. Our farmers go under and we have to rely on foreign farmers to feed us . . . we will be in very deep doody. A strong Ag base is JUST as important as a strong military. Do you want to rely on Mexico or Chile to feed you? Mexico who was seconds away from helping the Kaiser and Hitler in the World Wars? Of course we could just depend on China!!!

I sure like to see those Canadian Semi's rolling past my dad's farm, loaded with cattle going to the packing plant....Nevermind the fact that my dad's cattle are in far better shape, and are often cheaper.....

It's not just farmers that are adversely affected. Levi's are no longer produced in this country, and there was a boot manufacturer down in the valley (Rio Grande valley) that also moved their production down south of the border.

A healthy domestic manufacturing base is important to all of us. It's not out of ethnocentrism that I look for the "Made in USA" label.

I especially like the Mexican trucks held together with bailing wire now bombing down our highways spewing exhaust.

On the West Coast, California, Colorado and Oregon in particular, farmers are giving up in a different manner, by selling their water rights to rapidly growing cities. Imperial Valley farmers, in southernmost California, have, through a clever method of political bargaining with the federal government holding a gun to their heads, agreed to sell their water, costing $15/acre foot, to San Diego and Los Angeles for in excess of $250/acre foot. The profits will provide an 'economic cushion' to farm land owners in the Imperial Valley who will forego farming in one of California's poorest areas.

While national focus is on the massive number of jobs lost in the industrial sector due to our standard of living being so high as to make our products uncompetitive, our ag base is deteriorating in much the same manner. So we'll end up with the strongest military in the world but be so broke we end up invading Mexico and Canada for food?

Sinjin, get ready for a lot more of those smoking trucks held together with bailing wire. Only, of course, if you eat fruit/veggies/salads or need alfalfa to fatten your cattle.....

Now you started it, the Canadians here are already suspicious enough of us in the lower 48!

Especially since they've become our second largest supplier of oil, right behind Saudi Arabia. But wait, that benefits our oil companies. But with an invasion they could own it and our occupation troops wouldn't have to travel far, weekend leaves at home, Hmmmm...

Why just the Mexican ones? Americans do this too, so why pick on the people of only one country.

too many spuds

our potato jndustry seems to be taking a hit also.ALONG WITH DR. Atkins low carbohydrate diet, we are seeing a lot of canadian spuds coming across.I believe in equal trade as much as fair trade.Given an equal dollar,we could compete, but it looks like another tough year up here.we are looking at loosing more farmers this year.I wonder when the gov.thinks enough is enough?

Don't go thinking we are easy prey up here.

Just because the fed gov't says we have to register Long Guns to help elinate crime in this country ,doesn't mean we can't use our slingshots for defense.

We have plenty of ammo too !

And even if we did run out of ammo,we always have our beer to put the US troops into a trance

You need to make Rummy and Wolfie aware of that. It is a fact that when it comes to suds consumption, NAFTA or not, Canadians have few peers. But best not remind them of the oil or there could be a new training factor for US troops.
