Any ideas on the best/low priced across the bed boxes. Saw one in Advance Auto for $148.00. Made of alu., had diamond plate pattern, looked good. I would like a single lid.
I know you said low priced, but I'll post anyway. I owned a "Weather Gaurd" aluminum box with a single opening lid, (my preference because you can put big things in easily). It cost between $300-400 and I installed it. It had automotive style locks, weatherproof, and gas assist for the lid. I was impressed with the quality. I put it on my 1994 and it's still on it, used every day. Anyway, I used to keep some expensive stuff in the box and I felt good about the quality.
i found a DEE-ZEE box for mine at Sams club (WAL MART) for 120 bucks. works great for me, some times hard to open because handle is in the middle but thats when my step side comes in handy. overall the quality is good and i like it.
I have a Delta across the box tool box made of checkerplate. I got the dual lid because I like to not have to jump in the box everytime I want to grab something. I can fit a set of golf clubs with a bag in by just opening one lid.
I use one of those hinged totes. Sure, it doesn't lock and can't hold the big stuff, but it holds what I need it to hold and can be pulled off the back in a couple seconds. You can't go wrong for 12 bucks.
Love my Husky. I think I paid $225 for it 5 years ago. The original had a defective latch design, and Home Depot was kind enough to replace it with the newer design, which is even better. Had it for 2 years, and not one problem...except for all the crap that makes its way into the box!
I also have the weather guard tool box. I like it because it is strong enough to stand on without bending and it carries a ton of stuff. The only problem I see with it is that if I had a 2004 F150, it would cover almost half the rear window because of the larger and higher box on the 04's. You get what you pay for and the cheaper versions, aluminum diamond plate, are thinner walled and much weaker IMHO.
i have a diamond plate chrome Delta champion one on my truck. it came with it when i bought it but ive found it advertised for about 200 bucks. personally i like it, it has plenty of room and it looks pretty good on my truck.
