i hear the heavier the wire the better the spark. but does it matter what year motor you have is to what type of wire you get?
i was lookin for some on ebay and some say that they wont fit my YEAR 302. is it correct, and will any 302 plug wire fit on any 302?
That's right larger wires will not fit our 302's with the small distributor cap (7mm wires). But you can convert the small distributor cap to a large one that will accept 8 mm wires.
well, i took my 7mm off today and found they had dryrotted, can i just buy 8mm and slap them on there?????? and dont want to have to go through all that trouble
Jake, I was looking for the thread I saw yesterday that mentioned that 8mm wires would not fit the small distributor. But now I can not locate that thread. I think Torgue 1st was the member who said 8mm would not fit.
well, i find some nice 8mm on ebay and i just wanted to put them on there without any additional work. if i get um, then i can probably get them to fit
I've done this conversion twice now. I went to Advance Auto, they had the wide cap on the rack right behind the counter. The spacer they had to go to the back to get. Just ask for a cap and spacer from a 85 Mustang - get the tall rotor as well.
I saw that someone on ebay had the cap and spacer listed for something like 28 bucks - I thought that was a little high.
I'm afraid I don't have any part numbers - I told them I wanted the parts for an 85 Mustang - 351, I think.
The 8MM wires will not fit the stock distributor cap. The wide cap has male connectors and the correct wires have a female boot. The stock distributor has female connection points. Trying to put the 8MM wires on a stock cap will end up with a female to female connection. << insert your own joke here >>
I suppose you could always try the male 8MMs and see - let us know if it works.
I know that some folks put a tuneup (plugs, wires, etc) on an old car in a last ditch effort to keep it on the road, just before they send it to the junkyard - but I would not trust plug wires from a junkyard. I would rather pay for the peace of mind new wires bring - but that's just my opinion. Your mileage may differ
