I normally never rev my truck much over 3500 and on the highway i try and shift about 2700 or so. I read somewhere on here that a guy was shifting at 2200 on the highway and that improved his gas milage.

Dustin_86, You should do a search of this forum for "redline." There have been some good discussions in the past year or so. I have had three 300 I6s over the past 27 years and never took one past 4000. Horsepower peak is around 3400, so unless it is modified, no sense going more than a few hundred past that. Normally I try to shift by about 3600 when I am all out, but for normal driving, high 2000s are pretty fun. Power in mine comes on really strong at 2000, so as long as I shift where the next gear picks up above that, preferably around 2500 it runs very nicely.

i agree, i shift at 2600 when im driving normal, and about 3100 when im pushing it, sometimes i take 1st and 2nd all the way to 3400....but that right there where you start to lose everthing..a.nd really fast, just falls away in like 500 rpm, so i would say set the redline at about 3400..i would
