I'm new to this list but have been a bronco enthusiast for many years. I currently am working on a 1968 EB that has a stock 289 w/ 140K on it. It runs really good but I'd like to get rid of the card and go EFI. I have had a 1989 Grand Marquis Wagon given to me that runs really well too. Can I put this EFI on my 289? Would just swapping the 5.0L into the EB be a better option? I really have no plans on building up the 289 as I have a 69 351W in the plans. Any info or links to info on the Speed Density EFI into an EB would be a great help.
I'd save yourself alot of time and energy and swap in the 351W now...the differance will be night and day! You get a lot more torque for only an additonal weight of about 90 lbs.
The 351W is still a number of years away. I will not have that ready for at least 3 more years or untill the 289 dies. I also had a typo on teh year of the 5.0L...it is a 87 and it is not an HO.
The SD EFI system will work geat on your 289. Are you going to use the serpentine belt?
If so you will need a different water pump and you can buy one at bcbroncos.com You will need to change out the distributors. I would check to see if the distributor gears are made out of the same material, I think they are but not sure. You will also need a fuel pump. Most people use a 86 F250 frame mount pump. Good luck!

A few times on my truck. I now have a 1982 351W SEFI engine and REALLY like it! The 289/302 's got better gas milage with the SD EFI but I'll take the power any day! RB
Yes...I would love to go SEFI on my 351W and will start collecting the needed parts this summer. But, like I said the 351W is still a number of years away. The 289 runs great and I have a ton of other things I'd like to do to the EB and drive it at the same time. I just hate that carb and can take anything I want off this Grand Marquis Wagon before it hits the junk yard.
How difficult is the wiring of the SD SEFI? I just got a complete setup off an 89 F150 and will be adding it to a 302. Any source for wiring schematics and other helpful info? Thanks.

There really is not much wiring involved if you have everything from a donor. Its just a mater of laying it out. But a truck setup is not SEFI it is a batch fire setup. Also it will not fit under the hood of a Bronco even with a 3" body lift and hood scoop. Read this it might help http://classicbroncos.com/efi.shtml

Do you have to swap distributors if you dont run the serpentine belt? Do you have to run electronic ignition? Does the 86 f250 fuel pump require a low pressure pusher pump?
Thanks
I have not started my project yet. My understanding is that you will need to use the dist. out of the donor vehicle no matter what. I know most people do not like the speed density system but mine was free and will do me just fine for now. How far along are you with your swap and how is it going so far?

You must use the donars distributor. Not the Bronco 1. The pump either has to be mounted back by the fuel tank or you need a supply pump . i am running a stock machanical pump that supplys an accumulator that I bought from bcbroncos.com the EFI pump pulls fuel from the accumulator. This way I can use both of my stock fuel tanks and there is alot less high pressure plumbing. There is allot of fuel supply info on that site. Good luck! RB
