AC problems!

Great board! Been reading it for a few months but cannot seem to find any info in the search for my problem.. I have a 92 f150 4.9 engine, the AC went out the other day and now even with the AC unplugged the pump makes a noise so I thought I would just get a non AC belt to bypass the AC system. Well it doesnt work belt is to long! Has anyone else had this problem how do I fix it without buying a new AC pump? Elijah Jones

It sounds like your magnetic clutch on the compressor needs to be replacec.

Depends on what is worn out. If the pulley bearing is shot you need to replace the clutch assembly or at least the pulley. If the compressor shaft bearings are worn out you can get temporary relief by simply removing the clutch hub (remove center bolt and pull it off) and running the pulley only with no AC function.
