Angry Crankshaft sensor location

Hi , My first time here .
I have a 93 aerostar with 3.0 L engine . The van quit on me . After letting it cool down I was able to restart and run until warm again . Now once warm it seems to bog down or missfires then quits .
It has the remote mounted ignition module . So far I've had now error code show up except 111 ..
I've replaced , cap , wires , rotor , Coil , ignition modual , fuel pump , fuel filters .
Fuel pressue is good along with fuel regulator . Fuel pressure never dropped off even during failure so fuel sytem seems ok , Vaccum is good , no leaks . Catalytic converter is good . I replaced the distributor with a good used one . Worked ok for one day then started acting up again . The distributor was hot to touch but not untouchable. After placing snow around the base to cool it off I was able to get home . But its unlikely that two pickups would burn out or fail that close together . Still no error codes showing up .
Now the question . Does this engine have a crankshaft sensor and if so where . My haynes manual is very poor on instruction .. I've been driving my poor husband nuts with this Van . I normaly do all my own repairs but this has me stumped .. Any help ?

Hi, welcome to FTE!

Your '93 3.0L has a distributer system so it will not have a seperate CKP sensor near the crankshaft like on the newer engines. Instead, that function is performed by a "hall-effect" vane switch assembly inside the distributor itself.

My first guess would have been the ignition module as they had a reputation for failing when hot on the early 3.0Ls, but you said you replaced that. It does sound like your problem is related to the distributor and/or ignition system, though. Have you tried wiggling the wires associated with the ignition system while the motor is warm to see what happens?
