Hey yall my speedo broke today. Actually it has been making a loud noise under the dash and i didnt know what it was, well today it was jumping around (about 10 mph one way or the other) and the noise has eased up alot. So i know its going to break soon, so my question is ...... How hard is it for someone that is not a mechanic to replace, and how expensive is it to do so as well.
It usually does
I forget if the cable comes out from the top or bottom (bottom I think), disconnect the speedo cable housing at the trans, pull the cable out and wipe it down with a rag soaked in light weight oil (trans fluid will work).
Or, you can get some stuff in a squeeze tube from a parts store, and take the gauge cluster out and squirt some lube in from the top.
Taking the cable out is the best way, cause then you can inspect it to see if it's fraying or damaged (and replace it).
