Exclamation 4 x 4 trouble

I have a '93 F250, 7.3L diesel, supercab 4x4. Last night, while on a visit to my friends in the mountains, I was in the snow and had to put it into 4 high and 4 low. I let it sit over night in 4 high and this morning when I went to drive it into town it won't disengage the 4 x4, HELP! I have the shifter all the way forward (or as far as it seems to go towards the engine) which should be back to 2 wheel drive but it is still in 4 high. I have tried everything I can think of - shifted to 4 low with the transmission in neutral (automatic transmission) and then back again, I tried backing it the suggested 10 feet, etc., but the dash light is on and I can feel and hear that it is still in 4high. Any suggestions? When I took it in for an oil change the front and rear transfer cases were all okay. I need to drive home after the new year - an eight hour drive and I know to do that in 4 high would be costly and a bad idea. I was hoping and would appreciate it if someone could give me some ideas as to what is wrong although I will be taking it in to the local garage this week.

Find a big enough area that you can use as a make shift slalom course, but in reverse. It should come out eventually.

If that doesn't work unlock the front hubs. It will not bind when you turn or build up stress between the front and rear axel. The front axel and drive shaft will turn though.
