I gave $237.50 (plus $85.00 shipping) on E-bay for two leather Explorer seats out of a '99 Explorer. I found a center console out of a 2000 Explorer at a recycle yard for $50.00.
Neither are installed yet. I probably won't get them installed until late January as I am going on vacation for 10 days starting Jan. 4th.
84ford460, I would also like the info on the wiring harness. My truck is a '99 XLT sport Xcab with 60/40 seats.
Johare,
You do have the wiring for the seats as long as your truck is a XLT. A friend that works for Ford verified this for me.
I have a 96 and it has the wiring , I looked to make sure.
You are really going to like the buckets. I love mine!
I have a 94 ext cab, will you send pics of the install when done or even in progress?
I asked this in another thread and got links to a page but seats were from 80's vehicles, which are now getting hard to find and if you do the seats are trash!
Originally posted by 99xlt4.04x4 I dont do the ebay thing (parents wont let me use the credit card and i dont have one). About how much at a junk yard?
Someone, I believe it was 88ford said that seats at a junkyard can cost you over $500. This is true - but - this depends on where you are, the junk yard involved and other variables. One of these variables is the condition of the seats themselves. I recently replaced a bucket in my beater (a '90) and the seat cost me $50.00 at 'a' local yard. Another yard, for the same seat, wanted $165.00 - in worse condition. So, my first advice is to call around or visit all of the yards in your area - prices vary. My second piece of advice is to ask if you can save money by removing the part yourself (fewer and fewer yards are allowing this option - insurance considerations). My third suggestion: don't always look for perfection - my seat had two small cuts in the seat. A cheap repair kit sealed them (to prevent further splitting) and (since the old and new seats didn't color match, an inexpensive seat cover set makes them match and protects them.
My only real consideration when buying, was that the replacement seat could not be all 'broken down' - since that was why I was replacing the older one. Beyond that - things could be handled.
So to set the record straight, I did trade the ranger about 5 years go for a huge jacked up fullsize bronco, I no longer live with my parents, I have credit cards, and I'm allowed to use ebay haha.
So about the ranger center console, I did buy one at a local junkyard and installed it. I don't remember what I padi for it since it was 10 years ago. I also istalled new seats caue the old driver seat broke. I put in some racing seats from advaced auto. Can't remember the brand name. Word of advice... Don't put racing seats in a lifted ranger. I remember smashing my ***** on the high thigh bolsters on more than one occasion. That's something you don't forget, even in 10 years. I actually think I have som pics of that install on my old computer if anyone is really interested. Or maybe they were acutal photos, you know... on film.
Just to add to the thread for anyone who is thinking to do the explorer conversion. I would not call it a direct bolt in. But pretty close. REALLY IMPORTANT. The console bolts to the dash in the front and dogs into a bracket on the floor of the explorer in the back. Its riveted to the explorer floor. YOU NEED THIS TO MOUNT THE CONSOLE PROPERLY. It will pry off with a small pry bar or screwdriver, so no drilling needed in the junkyard. I got my leather explorer seats for $60 (think i got a very good deal). Console was $30 complete.
I really really really like the dual bucket setup.
