What ratio
Hi guys and gals,
I know, it`s a truck Forum, but maybe someone can give a tip what gear ratio I should use in a 'stang.
It's a '73 Mach1 with a 351 W in conjunction with a C6 automatic tranny. The car belongs to a freind and I'm his mechanic.
She has a 9" with limited slip differential and a very long ratio. (I think it's a 3.08 or something in that area)
My freind ask me to change the ring and pinion and I don't know what ratio is to buy. He needs more acceleration......
What ratio do you prefer if u have that car?

It would be more helpful if we knew what cam, carb or any other mods that may have or may be planned for the motor. Does he drive alot on the highway? If so then anything much over a 3.5 rear gear will kill his rpm for highway driving and I am basing this on a stock or very mild motor. If he has a bigger cam, carb headers and the works then a 3.70 or just slighly higher would be good for that combo but again not very good for the highway.
The most common gear swaps are 3.25 or 3.50. As for his posi set up he may have the old equa-lock set up. These are very hard to find parts for.
