the install was pretty straight foward. i did have to buy a 1" spacer plate, so the linkage would clear the vacum diaphram on the intake manifold. my truck also has an egr so i had to get longer studs then what came with the spacer plate, because of the plate for the egr. the throttle cable hook right up with the ball attachment supplied with carb. edlebrock does make a kickdown extension that i haven't got around to installing yet. it is just a piece of stock metal that comes with a screw, and a nut and bolt. i haven't figured out how it works just yet. the kickdown kit doesn't com with any instructions and i don't have any paper work for the carb it was given to me by a friend. i just shift it into second if i need to pass somebody. you might need an air cleaner riser depending on the air cleaner you run. also a inline fuel filter if you don't have one already. if get anymore info on the kickdown i'll let you know.
i used the bolt to attach the extension rod to the kickdown rod. The the other end of the rod fits over the piece on the throttle adapter and i used a c clip. The throttle adapter comes with a metal strip to extend the spring outward and i had to have it crooked so the spring didn't bind with the adapter. You do have to unbolt a few things to put the adapter on.
My '86 bronco was causing me the same problems. Rough idling and bad milage. I went completely over all the vacuum lines looking for a leak and found nothing (quite a job with all the stock emmision controls). I eventually found a vacuum leak between the EGR plate and the intake manifold. I replaced the gasket and that solved my problems.
Is the egr valve the thing behind/below the carb with a connection for a vacuum line pointed toward the firewall? If so, where exactly is the plate? I'm having a difficult time picturing all this in my head. One of the mechanics I had look at my pickup replaced some gaskets around the intake, but I'd have to go find the invoice to find exactly what he replaced.
Yes, th EGR valve is located under/behind the carb. The plate is the thing the EGR valve is mounted on, and fits between the carb and manifold.

Just thought I'd throw this tidbit in about the 4180 Holley on my 87 F-250, 460. I always had a problem with the choke and cold running problems. I realized that gas was being "pulled over" through the accelerator pump nozzle while the choke was in operation. Holley sells an "anti-pull over pump nozzle". I found one out of an old 4165 I had. Made a huge difference.

I removed the carb and EGR plate and discovered that the gasket between the manifold and egr plate was burned from exposure to exhaust gas. I cleaned up the surfaces and put everything back together with new gaskets and it ran like a champ.
Hey Franklin and Red why don't you guys help me out in my thread? At least you Franklin...I'm a Staunton boy from way back and got a picture with me and the Statler Bros. to prove it.
[QUOTE]Originally posted by Big Red Hello from Big Red... if you check my thread, you will find I replaced my carb with a rebuilt Motorcraft 2150 from AutoLine in Winnipeg. What a difference! Truck works like new... drives like a dream. [/QUOHey there Big Red I have that same carb and took it out to rebuild it and lost the screws, any ideas ????
I think my boy lost them ! what a nightmare
Thats a tough one! I see that you have two options. First, check out the local salvage yards or ebay for a junk 2150 to use for parts. I doubt that you can get new replacements from Ford but try contacting AutoLine directly for the parts at:

I probably would have tried to rebuild mine but the truck sat for a year and got a lttle water on the air cleaner that eventually ran down the cover screw bolt and rusted the butterfly plates shut. So that extra hassle seemed outside my scope as a 1st time rebuilder ,so I bit the big one for a new reman 2150.
I haven't returned it for the core return yet.
IF you can find my "2nd opinions needed now-'84-F150" thread, there are many pics. The replacement is exactly what the original looks like. I could snap a digi pic of the old carb if your interested.
I'm planning a replacement of my Holley 4180 ( 1986 F150 5.8L, AT) with an Edelbrock 1406. If you'll allow, I just want to confirm my shopping list: 1) carb 2) kickdown adapter. Let me know if I need anything else. (Okay...warmer weather would be good!)
