A low buck Crossman pump pellet gun will be more accurate, BB's just rattle down the barrel.

Please, make sure he has the proper training before turning him loose with it.

Good points. I got my first BB gun at age 6, and had a pellet gun by 13. My dad closely supervised me every step of the way. I think his plan was that he was sure of my abilities with a gun before I turned of age where I was driving a car. Learning how to be responsible with a BB gun is a great first step.

By the time I was 16 my dad didn't have to worry about how well I could handle myself. I was deemed responsible enough to take my younger brother hunting by ourselves, with no limitations on size of guns taken.

He has had proper training, and is a good shot with a .22....
but I think a BB gun is more appropiate for his age
or pellet gun... ...

He'd probably be happier with the pellet gun. He may be old enough the BB gun may be beneath him now.

"You'll shoot your eye out!"

Sorry, just watched our favorite Christmas classic, 'A Christmas Story' where Ralphie connives to obtain a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun.

Get the pellet gun. Pellet don't bounce back off a hard surface like BB's do. Very important.

I have a Crossman .177 pellet gun. I have to manually pump the fore end to get the air pressure. Mine has a scope and is capable of firing BB's as well. It's fun to shoot, even now as I get older. I don't think you can go wrong with a crossman.

A Crossman Pellet Gun that most sporting goods stores sell would definately be better and It's your own judgement that says this kid is ready and really wants this and sadly YOU want the liability in this litigation happy world of ours.

I've had a pellet bounce back and hit me in the chest when I shot a tree.
Pellets do bounce back but not as often

He is a really good kid, and I would only be doing this if I trusted him...
I am positive that no harm will come from him having one
He has shot a few different kinds of guns, and is aware of all the dangers..
I think he will be fine
Thanks for all your concerns and great advise!!!!

Sounds like the Crossman is the way to go so far
