dana 44 front axle

dana 44 front axle
i am looking at a 78 bronco and the guy blew the rear axle in it and just got a third member to swap in. the gears do not match the front axle. i have a 75 f-100 4x4 with a dana 44 front axle in it. my question is is the ring gear and carier the same for axles with drum brakes as it is in dana 44 with disc brakes?? i want to say that it is seems the axles are the same out to the spindles then they are different. am i right???

I want to say your right. But with the one you have beking Drum brakes it's a Low pinion D44 right? Where there Bronco is a High pinion. I'm not sure if that plays a role or not. But if it's just the Rear shot on the Bronco It'll be must easier to regear the 9" IMO

ya i never thought of that. ill have to look at it again. the bronco that is. i am just wondering if the bronco has 3.50 gears in it stock. thats what gears are in my 75. i am hoping that they are and i can just swap out the rear.

My 79 Bronco and all the 78/79 Bronco's I've came across has the 3.50:1 gear ratio. So odds are good that it it does. Look on the ID plate on the Door If it's axle Code 16 it's 3.50:1 open diff. H2 is 3.50:1 SL diff.
