I have only had my 04 350 6.0 for a week, it has 500 miles on it and the rear main is leaking. I have already got the intouch with the service dept at ford, has anyone had this problem?
Yes it is common.
Sometimes it is just residual from assembly. If you are concerned have them put dye in the oil to confirm leak and then replace seal.
Mine leaks but not enough to get worried about it. If it gets worse I will address it.
I took my 04 f250 fx4 cc to the dealer today because it looked like oil dripping of off the bell housing. They put it up on the lift, came back over to the service advisor and said it looked like a rear main seal. Said they hadn't had any come back for that. But to their credit, the 2 techs went directly to the computer and ran a oasis or whatever. After huddling around the computer they said that it could possibly be grease and they put dye in the oil, told me to drive it a few days, bring it back in and they would see if it was engine oil or not. I am pleased that we have some techs that aren't afraid to seek others experience when they haven't run into this situation before. p.s. I did not buy the truck from this dealer.
