5speed in 89 2WD lost 5th, tough to get in and out of Rev.

Any suggestions on what causes this? 89 2WD 2300CC 4 banger with 5 speed. Suddenly lost 5th and if I manage to get it into reverse it is difficult to get it out of reverse.

Appreciate any suggestions,

ive had a lot of trouble getting into reverse also. i have to bring the shifter back near one and then go back over to get it in. still cant fix it though. if i find out whats wrong il post it here.
