Whats the best way to get a AOD mated up to a FE motor? I know the bellhousing wont fit. Who makes an adapter? Ive checked Advance Adapters catalog and didnt see one. Anybody esle do adapters?
Check this article out. It has a lot of "good" reading on an AOD install. If it does not relate directly, the "place" to buy an adapter might be in the article.
I'll definatly keep everybody informed. Thou I am thinking its going to be easier to yank the 390 out and put in a 351w and AOD...
Save the 390 for a 4x4 or sell it. I really need a tranny with OD since I will be traveling to shows in TN, Ky, Ga, and towing the 4x4...
There are people running AODs behind their FEs. I can't remember who makes the adapter but keep hunting. It isn't a very complicated process to bolt one up.
Thanks. I still think for the 2500 dollars they are wanting for the Transmission I could find a AOD and 351W that are in pretty nice shape, or even have them rebuilt. We'll See what happens.
4star, Have you considered other options? I had a 3:50 rear end with 390 and 4 speed. My MPG was around 10. I went to the wrecking yard and found a 3:00 traction lock for $300. Mpg went up to 13. I still need to try smaller jets on my carb (holley 4160 /600), But I'm happy with the 13 mpg that I have now.
Traction lock 300.
new break line 15.
gear grease 5.
Two identical black marks on the pavemet.........Priceless.
Yeah but then no good for towing. MPH im not so worried about its the sustained high revs at highway speed. I need a two speed rearend!! Too bad those are all toooo big for my lil hauler. thou the dually tires and having rear airbag suspension would be nice...
I agree. I need to get me one of those intakes.
Here's another site that may be of interest. http://www.ford-aod.com/
It's a fairly large page so be patient. The FE adapter kit is #56FE.
They also sell the tranny, and upgrade parts.
