When i got my new F250 I had the dealer swap them out before i drove it off the lot at no charge. Dealer wined a little and said the price of the towing mirors where about $300. I just told them no mirros then do deal. Just buy a set from the dealer or online they are simply to install and use the same elec. switch.:-)
BlueKnight is right.... They cost about $300. but I'll tell you that they are worth every penny! Very simple installation.... do a search and I think you'll find, myself among others, have detailed instructions for the installation. takes about 30 minutes total...

I can tell you how right now. Their are 4 nuts holding the mirror on.
First pull the black plastic cover on the inside of the door off, its where the top of the door and the window meet by the mirror.
Take the two larger rubber plugs out, now all 4 nuts should be visible.
If you have power mirrors, you will have to take the inner door panel off and peel back the sound barrier stuff and fish your hand in to unplug the mirror from the connecting plug. To take the panel off you have to pull your switches up from the panel, and remove the screw that holds the panel to the door, also remove the lower reflector and remove the screw , the panel will lift up , turn your switch panel to the side so it will slide through.
With the window down, so you can hold the mirror, remove the 4 nuts, carefull as so they dont fall into the door.
Put it all back together the way it came apart, should take you about 15 to 20 minutes per door.

Very true!! I just took them off to put my little ears back on for snow plowing, that way I can fit in the driveways easier.
Thanks for the responses. Yea, if I'd of known then what I know now, I would have had the dealer change the mirrors and the Firestone Steeltex tires before taking delivery of the vehicle. Live and learn I guess.
Thanks for the info. I am usually careful, but I hit the garrage door pretty hard and broke the small inner supports for the mirror. The outer parts of the mirror were fine. I had a Chevy that the mirror fell out (no garage door needed)while driving, and it put a nice dent in the door when it fell. Do not want a replay. I've been wanting tow mirrors since I bought my 250 SD back in 2000, but could not justify 300+ dollars. It would cost 135.00 to replace the broken standard mirror. Well, there's my justfication.
From: I'm lost somewhere in NJ -- can someone please find me?!?!?!?
Add trailer towing mirrors?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Nov-02 AT 10:36 PM (EST)]Just a note to anyone who already has to take the skin off their door for any reason, including trailer mirrors. Back when I got my first car (sorry -- it was a Chebby Camaro -- I swear I wanted a Mustang, but couldn't find any used ones that hadn't been beaten half to death) I invested a LOT into my sound system. That's when I learned the lesson about Dynamat. That stuff's not only great for performance sound systems, but it'll help anyone who wants to have a little less road noise in the cab. Start with the doors when you're doing your mirrors... and you'll find out that as soon as you've got some time you're doing the whole cab. One of these days I've got to dynamat my F-250..... one of these days..... darn, I used to have a lot more free time on my hands when I was 18!
