I agree quads and such are getting to much power
Im happy with my 250 beartracker
Id like to have a warrior, or Raptor
but I wouldnt be able to hunt off of it, and go the places I go
yeah i know what you mean about to much power for a sled i have a friend that has 1994 thundercat 900 that goes 125mph on radar and that was in 1994 imagine what they can do now but that seems to be what people want for the mountains i personally dont need nothing like that for the trail riding i do around here, and i agree someday they will but a stop to growing hp on them sleds and 4 wheelers you really dont need the speed for a 4 wheel but the power sure is nice for certain things specially on the farm and mudding. i think my 4 wheeler goes about 55mph max and thats fast enough specially when i dont ride on public roads anyway.
Gotta be careful at night, especially if you're pushing 90-100 in unfamiliar territory. When I had my Polaris, I made sure I knew the lay of the land. How close were you guys following each other?
My boss got clobbered by a buck in Northern Michigan a couple years back. Tried to jump over the sled, the cowl and windscreen were destroyed, and the boss spent 3 days in the hospital with cuts, bruises, and a broken collar bone.
i have the 27" mud tires on my 4wheeler. they look like tractor tires. its on a 2003 yamaha grizzley 660. i can do about 65 MPH, and YES you can get them stuck with those mudders. i spent 4 hours one day pulling my buddies out of a 100 yard mud pit though. id pull 2 out, get to the other side, pull 3 out, get back to where i started, pull the other 2 back out... finally the ruts were too deep and i burried it... takes the winch and 3 guys to get a 700 pound wheeler pulled out of the really thick stuff. but man... what an improvement those tires are, even though they cost 500 with the rims ill never go back to stock wheels
Originally posted by fordman428 i had a 340 john deere for a while till i got the one i have now 1993 700 wildcat i had that clocked at 115mph across an open lake oh radar bt as you read that is wrecked now and i will be getting a new one im thinking about a 1997 ZRT 800, after riding that wildcat i want something that has just as good as power and i can take it to the mountains but i sure will be a lot more careful with my new one.
Originally posted by fordman428 yeah i know they are dangerouse there were 4 kids killed on 2 sleds last week here in iowa, they were corssing a road below a hill and a truck ran into them they were all 4 dead within 4 days, it was terrible, there seems to be a lot of accidents on them but what do you expect for something goes 100moh with no protection but a helmet, im glad no one was hurt in my group it was acyually amazin cuz the sleds were totaled most people jumped off before they hit it, as well as i did.
As an avid snowmobiler I can tell you that was a recipe for disaster from the start. You are all so fortunate. Were you drinking too?
100 mph? i'm sorry, a little off i think. if you went air born. not knocking your story or anything but i have seen much worse at slower speeds. either way you got lucky.
on this note you know what else is really dumb? those snowmobilers that ride in the center median on highways. went to a crash where a car had slid out of control into the median and hit one of those guys on the sled. he went into the air over the car. another guy was riding like a slolom thing or what ever and bonced funny and lost it, launching his sled out onto the highway into a car going 70 mph. aren't there better places to ride? i mean come on when car lose control they go into the ditch so why would you want to ride there? sled vs. car.... i think you know who wins.
Sorry to hear about your luck, but glad your ok. It's been a while sence I was on a sled, not much snow in Nv. I grew up in New York and was always on one. My first was a Bombadear(sp?) 280, I think and the steering shaft broke and I drove it into a not so frozen pond, never did see it again. Then got a Yamaha 200 something, slamed it into a tree, nose first at about 35mph. Then I rolled my dad's BRAND NEW Yamaha 440 that he just finished for ice raceing down a 250-300ft hill. Needless to say he wasn't happy. I think he was more upset that his toy was totaled and I walked away form all of the wrecks.LOL And I did all this in two seasons.
I would like to add my voice here to those of us who see how ignorant & foolish this activity was? A hundred miles an hour - at night - on a snowmobile - in a crowd of guys juiced up on testosterone and adrenalin. And...... your bragging of your conduct and the consequenses...?
Anyone wonder why our insurance rates are so high. Anyone consider what the costs of rehabilitation, long term care and lifetime social security costs would be for for this guy when he gets disabled? ...not to mention the grief he will cause his family and anyone else who he injures in the conduct of his thoughtless 8th grade behavior?
..and, what's even more scary is he has a drivers license and a big truck

maine has a lot of snowmobiling.we have a lot of trails all over the state.we get a lot of out of state sleders. they arrive in parties sometimes 10-20 sleds at a time .we have a lot of injuries up here that are alcohol and speed related.a lot of our trails cut through woodsland so you really have to be alert. A lot of kids are getting hurt on these fast sleds.you see this young kid on the trail ,who weighs maybe 100lbs with a big sled going 80mph or more, definately a recipe for disaster.i know a few kids personally who have been injured. the adults know better but they should supervise the young ones better.
Fordman28 you guys were real lucky, I had a similar incident while sledding. I got tangled up in a barbed wire fence after miss judging the boat launch, while exiting the ice at a high rate of speed (we were gunning across the lake for last call in town) I lost a certain part of my anatomy, hence the handle "Nutter" I still have one of the set and I'd like to keep it that way, so I've changed my riding habits.
Someone was watching out for you guys, that could have been a lot worse. If you have kids think about them whenever you pin the throttle, thats what I do now.

Fordzlla this is something I or Fordman28 are not proud of. We felt it right to tell others of our stupidity in hopes of it not happening to others.
