I need some block clarification
I have an issue I would appreciate someone clearing up for me. I have a '67 Mustang as well as my ranger, and the car has a windsor.......or so I thought, I just read a post that suggests otherwise. The casting number on the block on my mustang is E4AE. I know its an 84, and I have replaced the manifold and saw the 351 cast into the lifter valley, and every part I buy for a windsor fits great (ie:the manifold). But I also have a friend that says it is a modified. I don't know what I have I guess, but all the stuff I put on it for a windsor fits great. If it is not a windsor is it a decent block/head combo? What kind of after market parts fitment issues will I have? Will 351 windsor cams work in it if it is a modified? I am all confused now, hahaha. I greatly appreciate some clarification
p.s-The engine I am going to put in my ranger I know is a windsor, casting # d2AE.
the valve covers on a windsor are essentially square boxes with a flat top similar in fact exactly the same as a 302, while the 351M has valve covers that are curved on the top except for the oil fill area which is flat topped. A modified has a steel ridge immediately to the right of and in front of the distributor running in line with the block it is about 3/4 in. high and 2and 1/2 in long . The modified has a big block bell housing and the bolts at the top of the bellhousing where the tranny bolts on are about 7to8in apart while the windsor shares spacing with the 302 and 300 six and 351 cleveland, which is about 4 to 5 in.. the 351M is a much larger motor in fact almost as big as a 460 while the windsor is only about 1to 2 in. wider than a 302 and the same length, they will share the same heads but not intake manifold. hope this helps--btw the 351M is a boat anchor!!!
